Ali Mac is a Connecticut-based artist working across mediums. Her style is characterized by loose, organic lines and candy-colored hues. She discovered her love for sewing during the pandemic after inheriting her mom’s old Singer. What began as a hobby making clothing appliqués for her first baby quickly evolved into animations and large scale portraits in sewn, layered felt.

Prior to working as a freelance illustrator, she got her start in the creative industry as a designer for Jonathan Adler. It was there that she gained experience designing for collaborations with Paperless Post, Toms, Lifeguard Press, Barnes and Noble, Dylan’s Candy Bar, and Ebay.

Clients include: AMEX, Better Homes and Gardens, Bumble, Chronicle, Clé de Peau, Country Living, Daniel Wellington, Evian, Facebook, Fast Company, Food52, Harper Collins, HGTV, Honda, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Johnnie Walker, Kiehl’s, Munchkin, Pampers, Penguin, St. Martins Press, Stoli, StreetEasy, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and Zillow.

Ali is represented by Totally.

ABOUT HER PROCESS

Almost all of Ali’s work starts with a digital sketch. From there she converts her drawings to templates used for cutting felt on a die-cutting machine or by hand, depending on the scale. Once assembled, she sews the layers on her standard sewing machine.
